A LIFE ROOTED IN WALTON COUNTY
Mike Adkinson,
Jr. shares our Walton County family values
As a native of Walton County who
grew up in DeFuniak Springs, Mike Adkinson, Jr.
not only understands Walton County family
values, he shares them and lives them. Mike was
raised attending Walton County public schools,
worshipping and fellowshipping at Walton County
churches and participating in youth sports and
other community activities.
Today Mike is raising his young
family here. Annabelle Grace is seven years old
and attends West DeFuniak Elementary School. Ava
Elizabeth is three years old. Erin, Mike’s wife
of 14 years, works as director of operations for
a Rosemary Beach real estate development firm.
Like so many other youngsters,
Mike’s boyhood dream was to serve his community
as an officer of the law. That desire grew even
stronger as he grew older. So did his desire to
bring fair, ethical, professional policing to
Walton County.
In 1992, after graduating from
Florida State University with a bachelor’s
degree in criminology, Mike left to pursue his
dream. Ironically, Mike knew he had to leave
home and gain experience serving with
professional law enforcement agencies elsewhere
in the state before he could effectively lead
the effort for change in Walton County.
In 2005, Mike came home to serve
as City Marshal in DeFuniak Springs. Under his
leadership, the department will soon receive
official accreditation, a goal Mike set on his
first day on the job.
Mike’s road home was a long one
but his journey prepared him well for the office
he is seeking and the challenges which lie ahead
in bringing modern, professional policing to our
Sheriff’s Office and a higher level of service
to the people of Walton County.
